Front yard in Korumburra

This front yard in Korumburra was a slippery mess of parking spots on grass and a front door only accessible from one direction.

Taking a look at the use patterns, the following layout presented itself, leaving a relatively small area for gardens and most of the area being either parking or paths, made of old concrete, broken and extracted from the backyard, and reused in the front.

The crazy paved path is grouted with a dark colour to compliment the exposed aggregate and highlight the naturalistic shapes of the broken concrete. The large pieces make solid stepping stones for paths running through garden, preventing compaction and muddy feet.

The front steps are constructed from old pier beams, bigger than sleepers creating a full step height per tread. The 120 year old timber is the same age as the house and also compliments the concrete paving and stone terraces.
