Loch hilltop landscape
This property has the most amazing views out over hills to Western Port Bay but also cops a fair bit of wind, so, when designing the garden around this new build, the brief was to find a balance between these two factors.
I visited the site in the summer while the house was being built and created a base map. The cut for the house left the surrounding landscape pretty flat and the owners wanted to introduce some mounds to aid in wind deflection and in order to highlight and reveal views. I developed the following concept plan based on prevailing winds and microclimate while factoring in desired views and main landscape elements.
The planting design was informed by the need for windbreaks in particular areas while keeping crucial areas open to enjoy the view. The plants are a mix of natives and exotics placed around driveways, a lawn, an olympic sized trampoline, and pathways leading to chooks and an orchard.
This garden was recently constructed by the expert team at Bayscape Creations, based in Inverloch VIC. Burt and the crew just finished putting the plants in the ground and the new lawn is starting to green up and take shape. Looking forward to watching the treescape grow and shrub, perennial and groundcover layers fill out.
