…and front yards are often about access.

This front yard in Korumburra was a slippery mess of parking spots on grass and a front door only accessible from one direction.

Taking a look at the use patterns, the following layout presented itself, leaving a relatively small area for gardens and most of the area being either parking or paths…

… but if you ask me, that is what front gardens are often about: arriving and leaving, ease of access and feeling welcomed.

Once the access is prioritised, then the plants can soften, and trees can provide shade; creating a sanctuary which welcomes you home.
